One Day in Turkey (video!)

Hey guys,

Welcome to our film debut! The footage is all from one day in and around Fethiye, on the Mediterranean coast of Turkey. Please feel free to let the Oscar Committee know what you think.

We rented a scooter in Fethiye for three days. Cost us 60 Turkish Lira total (about $45 CDN), plus another 40TL in gas. Our moms will be happy to know that the scooter was returned without incident yesterday.

The video was shot with a little Canon point-and-shoot and edited with iMovie ’09. I gotta say, it’s a powerful little software package, and super easy to use. Although, editing still took us about 7 hours.

Footage by Laura
Editing by Chris and Laura
Music by Niyaz (they’re Iranian, not Turkish, but the mood is right)
Song is Nahan

If you want us to produce more videos in the future, you better let us know in the comments.

  2. Hi Laura!

It’s good to see you are having a wonderful adventure. We miss you at the museum (yes I got full time work there) I look forward to reading more about your travels!

    Cheers,
    Lydia

    1. Hi Lydia. I’m so happy you got a full-time job at the museum! I have no doubt you’ll do wonderful things. All the best. Keep me updated on the museum if you get a chance. Ciao -Laura-

  3. More video! It looks great and was a neat way to see the countryside. And the stop sign was Taiterrific ๐Ÿ˜€

    1. Thanks Katy! We looooove comments sooo much.

  4. Unless the vid is without audio and a stationary close up of a hunk of calcium, it’s clearly time to upgrade my mac…

    1. You should upgrade to one of those new 386 Mghz computers with Windows 95. I hear you can run spreadsheets and word process at the same time!

  5. The stop signs say Dur? You’re in Taitland, apparently.

    1. Yeah, but it’s thankfully devoid of roving bands of Taits.

  6. Hello Chris & Laura,

Cool vid! Are there no speed limits in Turkey? I was pleasantly surprised to hear Niyaz (I shot them at the 2006 Calgary Folk Festival). Azam Ali signed my CD!
Great photos! Here’s to more Frog Bog Blogs…
I’m sending you an email. Have fun and stay safe!

    1. Hey Ken,

Thanks for the comment. I still think of you every time Niyaz comes up.

      Cheers,
      Chris

    2. Hi Ken! It’s lovely to hear from you. Believe it or not, there are speed limits in Turkey, at least in the curvy neighborhoods and around towns. People generally drive quite slow on the highway, around 80 – 90 kilometers/hour. With the ever curving roads and the slow speed of the bus drivers what would be a 2 hour drive in Canada becomes 5 hours here. Hope all is going well, and I look forward to hearing from you again. -Laura-

  7. Totally dig the video! It’s good to see you guys are actually alive out there! I vote for more video, even if the motion is a little nauseating. Although, my stomach can’t even handle the motion of a revolving restaurant, so take that as you will…

    Miss you guys!

    1. Hi Kate! Glad you like the video. It’s a ball making them, and a lot of work, but mostly a ball. I’ll try to hold the camera more steady. ๐Ÿ˜‰ We miss you too…..the karaoke, the beersbee, the camping, the driving……let’s face it, you rock.

and still waiting on food post!!!

    1. Olympos is amazing. I think we are easily being convinced to stay here for perhaps one week. Yesterday we even got lunch included in the cost! What an amazingly cheap and wonderful day. Don’t worry, the food post will come. I promise.

Your trip looks so amazing! The video is very impressive! I’ve already sent an email to my contact in Hollywood telling them to slide you guys into the best film nominees for this year! (should be announced this week!) ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Hee, hee Christine. You make me laugh. I’ll start looking for my outfit for the red carpet.
